MY STORY

skipper

He is from Bolzano and was born as an extreme mountaineer. Participate in many extra-European expeditions conquering some of the highest peaks in the world. Together with his wife and some companions, he opens climbing itineraries both in Europe and in other continents, some of them even still unrepeated. He competes in numerous national and world sport climbing championships. Obtains the qualification of National Instructor of various mountain disciplines such as free climbing, ski mountaineering, ice and National Instructor of the Italian Federation of Sport Climbing. Obtains diplomas as Athletic Trainer. He also participates in numerous internships on nutrition methodologies applied to sport. In 1997 he decided to transfer all his sporting experiences and his profound determination in the field of sailing, quickly achieving excellent results, participating with some of the most important teams in numerous national and international regattas, both windward and long.

After having raced with many external teams, he decides to create his own to participate in one of the most demanding and suggestive transoceanic races, the Transat 650, with one of the most fascinating boats from many points of view: the fantastic Mini 6.50.

During 2006 he achieved excellent results and was proclaimed Italian Champion. During 2007 he raced at the Italian Grand Prix paired with Giovanni Soldini aboard the ITA 623 SpazioLibero.

Then he took part alongside the legend from Garda, Giulio Comboni, in the TreContinenti, a regatta that goes from Marseilles to Alexandria in Egypt, 1700 miles. And finally the Transat 650, Queen of the 4,200-mile solo ocean races that run from Brittany to Brazil, during which Maurizio unfortunately suffered an accident that compromised the final result.” What matters is getting to the finish line, having understood to be richer inside and to love life more than before!” Says Maurizio as soon as he landed in Bahia.

EXPERIENCES

TRANSAT 6.50

The queen of solo regattas

Maurizio took part in the 2007 edition of the Transat 6.50, one of the most fascinating and famous regattas in the world. More than four thousand miles solo aboard a six and a half meter mini, departing from the north of France and arriving in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.

THE THREE CONTINENTS

1,700 miles in the Mediterranean Sea

In 2007 Maurizio took part in the longest race in the Mediterranean Sea, the Three Continents, a 1,700 nm paired regatta that starts from Marseilles, stops in Malta and arrives in Alexandria in Egypt. A very demanding regatta considering the constant changes in direction and wind speed, characteristic of the Mare Nostrum

Mini Grand Prix of Italy paired with Giovanni Soldini

Maurizio takes part in the first edition of an all-Italian regatta, the Gran Premio Mini d'Italia. Not particularly long, "only" 500 miles, but certainly the most exciting for Maurizio: with him on board ITA 623 Spaziolibero, as co-skipper, one of the greatest Italian offshore sailors: Giovanni Soldini

ACONCAGUA

in just 9 days from Bolzano to the summit

In February 2009 Maurizio climbs the top of Aconcagua, in Chile, the highest peak in the world after those of the Himalayas. An impeccable operation both from a psycho-physical and organizational point of view: in just 9 days he left Bolzano and reached the summit, a record!

RAID ARCHIPELAGO

the toughest cat F18 regatta in the world

Without a doubt, the toughest and most extreme regatta in the world, the one held among the one hundred thousand islets of the Finnish archipelago on F18 sports catamarans. The Archipelago Raid is famous all over the world for its toughness: the psycho-physical resistance of the competitors is really put to the test.

GIRO D'ITALIA ON THE F18

from Trieste to Genoa, solo and non-stop

Leaving Trieste on 16 June, Maurizio arrived in Genoa on 1 July 2012, circumnavigating the entire peninsula with the F18 Enigma infinito catamaran in ocean trim. A very demanding test due to the adverse weather conditions and which had great resonance on a national level in all the newspapers and radio and television mastheads.
